Karen Fenton Memorial Run 2022

The annual Karen Fenton Memorial Run was hosted in Ballinora, Waterfall on April 10th, 2022.

The event was a huge success attracting runners and walkers from Ballinora community and beyond.

As a result of Covid this was the first event since 2019. It was great to be able to host this event again as a fitting legacy and tribute to Karen.

Results available here.

Thanks to everyone who particpated ane volunteered to help. It's with your great support that we can make these events a success.

This event is a 5km road race, which is being organised and hosted by the Fenton Family, in association with St Finbarr's AC, in memory of Karen Fenton, who passed away from Ovarian Cancer, on the 30th of April 2017, aged 43.

We are delighted to welcome runners and walkers back to Ballinora for this special community event for all the family!

We are continuing to raise much needed funds for cancer awareness, research and to support the operation of the cancer machine in CUHC. To date we have raised over €120,000 and our most significant donation to date was for the sum of €80,000 to go towards the purchase of the “Ion Torrent Genexus Integrated Sequener” machine, a new innovative machine that had been unavailable to cancer patients in Cork. The machine is now located in CUH, where Karen spent her final two months. The machine is being operated under the expert guidance of Medical Oncologist Dr. Dearbhaile Collins and Clinical Director for Cancer Services, Dr. Richard Bambury. Dr. Collins specialises in gynaecological malignancies, including Ovarian Cancer. This state of the art technology analyses cancer mutations to find new “precise” treatments for patients.

Any additional donations are welcome as we continue to fundraise for this worthy cause.
